The Ultimate PetSafe Easy Walk Harness Review

Worried about your dog running away and dragging you along with him? Simple leashes might be great for a walk, but the minute something piques your dog’s interest, he will definitely chase after it. This results in either the leash escaping your hands, or you being forcefully sped along with your dog.

However, pet harnesses have made the life of pet owners easier. They effectively help reduce the tension on the leash that your pet may inflict. Furthermore, they help in controlling and training your dog so that morning walks are much easier.

There is a wide variety of harness products on the market that help you control your dog easily. However, none do it better than the PetSafe Easy Walk Harness. PetSafe is a pet product manufacturer who caters to all kinds of pet owners and strives to make their lives easier.

Read ahead to find our easy walk harness review.

Easy Walk Harness

The Easy Walk Harness is perhaps the most popular product by Pet Safe. It includes high-quality materials that are comfortable yet functional.

The harness is quite simple as it discourages pulling and chasing. Furthermore, it is adjustable and is available in a number of different sizes. This way you can find one that suits you and your pet the best.

It is also quite easy to secure so you don’t have to waste half the time trying to get your dog to wear it. The harness makes it easy for the dog as well.

Collars and regular leashes put stress on the dog’s throat while the Easy Walk harness distributes it across the shoulders. This, in itself, reduces any tugging as your dog will be more comfortable.

Pros & Cons of Easy Walk Harness

Upsides of the Easy Walk Harness

Why should you buy the Easy Walk Harness or even consider it? Well, here is a full list of all the benefits and features that the harness has to offer:

  • Four Adjustment Points

If the harness does not fit the dog perfectly, it can lead to discomfort which can further lead to even more pulling and tugging. However, the Easy Walk Harness includes about four different adjustment points. This includes adjustable buckles in the belly area, shoulder area and two in the chest area.

As a result, your dog gets the most perfect and reliable fit so he can have maximum comfort.

  • Quick Snap Buckles

Apart from the four adjustment points, the Easy Walk Harness includes quick snap buckles. Unlike other leashes that involve looping systems or even more complex securing systems, this harness has buckles that can be quickly secured. So, you don’t have to worry about spending time in trying to secure the harness on to your dog. You can do it in minutes and head out.

  • Durable Nylon Construction

Pet Safe is a reliable brand that ensures durability and reliability in all of its products. This is why the Easy Walk Harness includes a durable and sturdy nylon construction. Nylon is known to be reliable and strong as it is resistant to any damage. Your dog can roll around and use it as roughly as he wants and you’ll barely see a thread missing.

Furthermore, it is not irritating for these dogs and does not cause rashes or heats up too rapidly.

  • Martingale Loop

Another important feature of the Easy Walk Harness is the Martingale Loop located at the chest area. Unlike leashes that are usually worn on the neck, the Martingale loop allows you to put the leash on the chest area.

This readily distributes the stress from the neck to the shoulders and chest. Thus, the dog does not feel as uncomfortable and he doesn’t pull and tug as often. Also, the martingale loop ensures that your dog does not choke or gag the pet.

  • No Opposition Reflex

Another major advantage of the martingale loop is that it is located at the front. This way even if the dog starts chasing anything, it is suddenly pulled sideways. This is in stark contrast with the collars that place the leash at the back.

  • Easy Replacement

Although the harness is quite affordable, the manufacturers still allow you to exchange any parts that are faulty. Even if your dog has ripped or chewed through certain parts, the manufacturers still allow you to get replacement parts at a small fee. This is much better than buying another Easy Walk Harness. As a result, you have a harness that lasts a long time.

  • Easy to Put On

The buckle straps and adjustment points make it easier to put on the harness. Also, the belly strap has a different color than the others. So, you never get confused over which part goes where.

Downsides of the Easy Walk Harness

Although the Easy Walk Harness is almost perfect, it still includes some cons. These are:

  • Initial Setup Is Difficult

Most users complained that while it is easy to set up after a while, the initial set up can be quite difficult. Fitting and adjusting it so that it fits your dog perfectly seems to be the number one gripe for most buyers. It will take a lot of time to do so as it involves four different adjustment points.

The adjustments make it so that you get a perfect fit. But, at the same time, they involve more complications and take more time to adjust.

However, once you have adjusted them, all you need to do is clasp and unclasp the buckles to take them off or put them on. This eliminates the need to adjust them every time you put it on.

  • Takes Time to Get Used To

This complaint is more general to harnesses and not just the Easy Walk Harness. A collar is much easier to get used to as it is only placed at the neck. Compare that with the harness that takes up several parts of the body and you get a device that might irritate your dog at first.

Thus, you won’t find satisfying results in the first few walks. In fact, we highly recommend that you put him into the harness inside your home to get him familiar with the contraption.

  • Rubs Against the Skin

Some reviews mentioned that the straps made from nylon were too harsh for the skin. They caused a few rough and raw spots, especially at their pet’s belly. This can be a huge deterrent for owners who have sensitive dogs. So, if you notice a few rashes or if you notice your dog itching the areas where the straps came on, it might be because the straps are rubbing against their skin too much.

How Does Easy Walk Harness Help Your Dog?

For a walk, a simple collar and leash might not suffice. You need something extra to help you control the dog. Enter the PetSafe Easy Walk Harness. From our Easy Walk Harness review above, you can definitely tell that the harness holds a lot of advantages. Here are six ways that the harness helps you and your dog during walks.

  • Redirects Pulling in a Safe Manner

As we already mentioned that the harness includes a martingale loop at the front of the harness. This loop rests at the chest area and makes it easier to steer or nudge your dog in the right direction. Furthermore, it gives you much more control as the loop safely redirects them to the side.

Also, the loop is completely safe and reduces any hot spots and twisting. Thus, you get a tangle-free walking experience.

  • No Choking

Since the loop is located at the chest and not the neck, the harness reduces any choking, brought on by the dog pulling on the leash. The neck and throat are very delicate areas where any injury can last for a long time.

Excessive pulling can often lead to crushed trachea and larynx damage. The harness redistributes the stress to the shoulders and chest. This means that the stress is redistributed to a wider area instead of being saturated at one spot.

  • Adjustable Fit

With four adjustment points, the harness ensures that you can find the proper fit for your dog. Let’s face it, dogs come in all shapes and sizes. Defining them by a few sizes is wrong and results in an imperfect fit, which, in turn, turns into discomfort. In fact, they even have a full guide on how to find the perfect fit for your dog.

  • Useful for Brachycephalic Breeds

Brachycephalic breeds are those that have shorter noses. They usually face a lot of breathing problems. This can include pugs and boxers. A simple collar can put pressure on their tracheas and larynxes, resulting in even more trouble. However, the harness makes it easier for them as it does not put pressure on the throat.

  • Visible During the Night

What most easy harness reviews remarked upon was the amazing night time visibility. Your pup might need to go out for a walk in the night. In such low-light conditions, the Easy Walk harness comes handy. The harness features reflective strips that reflect as much light as they can. Thus, they help alert you and other drivers about where your pup is at the moment.

Variations on the Easy Walk Harness

PetSafe also offers you different variations on the Easy Walk harness. These are slightly different from the original product. They are:

Measuring Your Dog

To find the perfect size for your dog, follow these steps:

  • Wrap a measuring tape around the widest part of the dog’s chest. This is to be done over the breast bone and above the legs. This is the corresponding Pet Width measurement.
  • Next, wrap the tap around the ribcage on the deepest part. This is the corresponding girth measurement.
  • Check the two against the above table and there you have it!
Fitting Your Harness

These eight sizes ensure that you can almost always find the perfect fit for your dog. To help it fit your dog perfectly, follow these steps:

  • Learn about the different parts of the harness since it can seem like a complicated contraption. The Easy Walk harness consists of three straps; the chest, belly and the shoulder straps. The three straps are joined on the ends by two O-rings. Moreover, the chest strap includes a martingale loop. The belly strap is a different color. This way, you can easily differentiate between the straps.
  • Now, unstrap the belly quick-snap and pull the strap for the shoulder over your pet’s head. Ensure that the chest strap rests on the dog’s chest.
  • Next, adjust the shoulder straps through the dedicated point so that the shoulder straps sit behind and above your pet’s shoulders.
  • Paw
Snap the belly strap in place and adjust it so it is snugly in place.
  • Paw
Ensure that the belly strap and the shoulder strap are in an almost straight line. Another point to note is that the straps should not be in the armpit area as it is a sensitive area.
  • Paw
Next, adjust the chest strap so that the strap is straight and horizontal. Also, ensure that the martingale loop is in the front.
  • Paw
Check all the straps with your fingers. They should only allow about two fingers to enter through.

Tips for a Leash

Here are a few tips that will help you walk more easily with the Easy Walk Harness:

  • Use a leash that is about 4 to 6 feet in length. We recommend that you use a light and sturdy clasp, using a flex lead can cause a lot of tension in the chest area which might trigger the opposition reflex. In addition, it may cause the chest strap to loosen.
  • Do not keep constant tension on the leash. Try to match your dog’s pace at all points so the leash remains loose.
  • Another notable point is not to yank or jerk the leash.
  • Paw
We do not recommend that you use jogging, cycling, or bike attachment leashes with this harness.
  • Paw
Use a lot of positive reinforcement to ensure that your dog walks nicely without needing much effort.
