Temperaments

There are two types of temperaments this breed possess depending on its type:

Siberian-Husky Dog Temperament

This type bears a very strong resemblance to wolves and may even seem intimidating. But, they are actually quite friendly, loyal and loving dogs. This mix was created by the Chukchi people from the Siberian tribe around 3000 years ago. This breed was created as a working dog. They are loving creatures who love to play. They are perfect for families with small children. This breed is best suited who have an active lifestyle and will spend as much time as possible with their dogs. They love staying active and do not like being alone.

German-Shepherd Temperament

German shepherds have been around since the 1800s and were initially bred to herd cattle and guard sheep farms. German shepherds have developed quite a reputation over the centuries and are the top choice for military operations or police service. Germen Shepherds take their guarding jobs very seriously and are loyal companions to their owners. They are active and playful which is ideal for a family with children. This breed is exceptionally intelligent and easy to train. They can adjust to several living conditions and will protect you and your possessions with their life. This is a social breed that likes to stay active; hence, boredom can lead to aggressiveness.

The Mix

Gerberian Shepskies are the ultimate dogs, meaning they possess traits of both huskies and German Shepherds. This hybrid is loyal, intelligent, playful and easy to train. A German shepsky is an instinctively Alpha dog and may get aggressive or do its own thing if the owner is not firm. When given a chance this breed can be very bossy and translate its pack-leader behavior into everyday activities.

If not trained and socialized properly handling this powerful hybrid can become a challenge. A Gerberian Shepsky can fit into many roles, from a police service dog to a watchdog or a guard dog. Gerberian Shepkies are as dramatic as a husky and can be very clingy with their favorite owners. This wonderful hybrid does not immediately warm up to strangers or even new dogs; they take time, so if they are careful with new faces it is perfectly normal.

Maintenance & Emotional Support

This hybrid sheds blankets of fur so be ready for clothes and everything else to be covered in your furry friend's fur. Brushing it daily can certainly help, but you have to schedule regular groomer appointments and keep a watchful eye on its hygiene. Gerberian Shepskies tend to smell like wet clothes that have not been dried. Their dental hygiene is also a crucial part of their maintenance process, hence, brushing its teeth on a regular basis is recommended.

As far as this breed becoming certified as an ESA, they make the perfect emotional support dog companions. Because of their large size, it's probably not the best idea to take them on an airplane. That said, their loyalty and support quality make them great companion animals.
